When we say we want to find our purpose, I think what we mean is, we want to share our unique gifts with the people around us. We want to feel that we are filling our own cup while also pouring into others.
I have always wanted to be one of those people who knew their purpose from the get go — the doctors, the architects, the psychologist. But it was never as easy for me: I had multiple interests, and somehow can pick up different subjects relatively easily.
What’s my purpose?
I looked outwards to find a sense of purpose: climate change. It is urgent, full of hurdles and needed people to spread the mission.
Yet, a few years into sustainability, something felt out of alignment. I didn’t feel I was sharing my authentic gifts with the world, I didn’t feel as on purpose as I did when I am recording a podcast, taking a portrait or just holding space for a person during a conversation.
Leaning into unease
I leaned into that sense of unease and tried to listen to what it was telling me. I’ve summarised five valuable realisations below.
